I'm a keen folk musician. Once upon a time, I had piano and then cello lessons; I subsequently taught myself guitar, whistle, a bit of bass and a little bodhrán and doumbek. These days, I mainly play acoustic guitar (tuned to DADGAD, often using a GR-55 to add effects like a bass model on my lower two strings) to accompany traditional folk music of the British Isles and various related traditions.

I play for dance a lot, and founded the Cambridge-based ceilidh band Firecrest. I also regularly play with the ceilidh bands Dancing Yew and Cunning Plan. (Do get in touch via those websites if you're interested in a lively folk band for a party or similar.) I cut my teeth on Cambridge University Ceilidh Band gigs, and still play with them from time to time.

Composing folk tunes is also great fun.

From time to time I get round to recording tunes, too. I've put a couple on my Soundcloud.
