When we consider the real world around us, most of everything from plain quantum theory up to Newtonian or relativistic physics becomes rather impractical to use - instead, we find assigning probabilities to different states, rather than tracing exactly which state all the particles are in, to be a lot more practical. This is *statistical physics*.
